The two camps provide overnight accommodation for the Rim to River hikers and the Canyon Mountain cyclists on their two- to three-day excursions. Camp Edge is 8.2 kilometres from the lodge, while Camp Eternity is 26 kilometres away.
Both have endless views across this ancient, fissured landscape, and hand-built stone gabions guard against the winds. Tents are set up in each gabion, with twin stretchers in each, and bedding is supplied by the lodge. Paths connect the tents to the main facility, which is constructed of stone and sustainable materials.
The main facilities at each camp provide a welcome area to relax after a long day, with sundowners served on the decks overlooking the canyon. Be sure to have your camera at the ready as the sun sinks below the horizon, painting the sky with vibrant hues. A three-course meal will be served under the stars, before you bed down for a night of utter stillness in these vast surroundings.
There are a total of four gabions per camp, with two tents in each allowing for a maximum of eight guests per adventure. Each camp has two bucket showers and two toilets. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included in the hiking and cycling packages.
These camps, as well as the excursion that you choose, allows the adventurous traveller a direct and intimate encounter with the savagely beautiful canyon and the natural environment that surrounds it. It is the experience of a lifetime, one you’re sure to never forget.
